Feldenkrais Method is a mode of neuromuscular retuning that allows us to shift unhelpful habits in movement, behaviour, posture and life.
Dr Moshe Feldenkrais applied his scientific knowledge, judo mastery and great curiosity about how human beings function to heal himself, and subsequently others, from injuries and neurologocal conditions. He introduced his method to the worlds of professional sport and the performing arts; today it is widely used to improve performance in these areas.
Feldenkrais Method is a unique and radical approach to regaining function and exploring the limits of human potential. It is gentle, mindful, powerful and accessible to most people. Over time, it can help you:
improve your flexibility, balance, posture and coordination
breathe more easily, feel more relaxed, sleep better
relieve stress, tension, anxiety and regulate your nervous system
feel more alive and vibrant
learn about yourself, your habits and how to move in and out of them
age more intelligently and increase your resilience
improve your performance in sports, martial arts, yoga, dance, theatre or music.
It is practised in two ways -
Awareness Through Movement - group classes where the teacher leads you slowly through a movement pattern or puzzle, different each time. You spend part of each class lying down and you are invited to attend mindfully to your movement and breath.
Functional Integration - individual sessions usually involving touch and gentle movement. You remain fully clothed and sit or lie on a low massage table. We explore the range and potential of your movement in order to improve a function such as picking up a grandchild, playing the piano with greater ease in the shoulders, or learning to run without recurrent injury.
